Stand Up Paddleboarding

Introductory Lessons

Stand up paddleboarding is one of the fastest growing recreational activities offering the perfect blend of fitness and FUN!  Paddleboarding can be a great workout or just a way to explore the lake. Either way, you need to know the proper technique. Bring your friends and join us on the lake for a great time. All of our classes are coed and offered in a relaxed, no pressure environment. Be prepared to work hard.  Lake Norman Community Sailing Center staff,  Amy Sullivan and Jen Newell will lead the lessons and can add modifications for anyone as needed. 

Lessons include:

  • Introduction to your board and paddle
  • Techniques for proper paddling and maneuvering
  • Water safety instruction
  • Fitness (Yoga) poses

Cost: Per lesson, the Resident Fee is $25 and Non-Resident Fee is $35.  

Location: Lake Norman Community Sailing Center, 15901 NC-73, Huntersville, located within Blythe Landing Park. The park is on the right if heading west on Hwy 73.  Follow signs to Lake Norman Community Sailing.

Schedule for Lessons

Saturdays | 9:30 – 11 a.m.
Be sure to arrive by 9:15 a.m., as class gets on the water at 9:30 a.m.!

Participant Requirements

  • Ages 16 and up. Participants 16 - 17 years of age must be accompanied by parent/guardian.
  • Participants must be able to swim.
  • Participants must weigh between 60-275 lbs., be in reasonably good health and able to stand up from a kneeling position with only the ground as assistance.
  • Participants must sign a liability waiver before or when they arrive at the Lake Norman Community Sailing Center.  Download the LNCS Waiver & Release

Participants will need the following for class:

  • Comfortable workout clothes that dry quickly (cropped tights, shorts, etc.). Dress for the weather (synthetic instead of cotton). Keep in mind to wear something that dries quickly in case you get wet. 
  • Water bottle
  • Sunscreen
  • Hat / sunglasses with a strap to secure hat/glasses
  •  Water shoes (shoes that strap on your feet and can get wet). Participants can also go barefoot on the board but will need shoes to walk out to the dock.
  • Towel
  • Change of clothes
