Cornelius is a suburb of Charlotte, located in the northern part of Mecklenburg County,  and is home to 31,000 residents. Cornelius is 15 square miles and borders 70 miles of shoreline on Lake Norman. The lake attracts a number of residents and visitors for recreation and leisure activities during the summer. Cornelius is also home to many boat marinas, restaurants, and lakeside parks. 

Recreation and culture is important to residents and visitors. Ten public parks are scattered throughout town in addition to an Arts Center that features the works of students and local artists. Cornelius is predominately residential and is a great place to live, work, and play.

The mission of the Cornelius Police Department is to provide a safe environment in which residents and non-residents can live and work. This mission shall be accomplished by the prompt and fair enforcement of local and state laws. It is therefore, the policy of the Cornelius Police Department to provide honest, fair, and efficient law enforcement to all people within its jurisdiction.
