On Thursday, October 16, 2014, Officer Jeff Heinz was recognized by the Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce as the Officer of the Year for the Cornelius Police Department at their annual Public Safety Luncheon.
Officer Heinz began his career with the Cornelius Police Department on December 21, 2009 after previous serving Davidson College. He currently serves as a Field Training Officer in the Patrol Division. Over the past twelve months, Officer Heinz has been assigned to a Crime Suppression Team where officers focus on systemic problems within the community. Officer Heinz, as a uniformed officer, has been extremely effective in developing criminal intelligence information then focusing his efforts on direct intervention.
During the past year he has made over fifty arrests including seven major felony criminal complaints mostly related to narcotics activity. Officer Heinz has also distinguished himself as a mentor to other officers in the department through his work ethic, positive attitude, and outstanding personality. His investigative skill has been excellent and his reports are expertly written.
The Cornelius Police Department has had many officers distinguish themselves throughout the past year, from life-saving responses in medical emergencies to outstanding investigative work in individual cases. However, Cornelius was proud to nominate Officer Heinz for his sustaining impact on the quality of life in Cornelius through his individual, and often very dangerous, effort in the direct and sustained intervention of criminal activity.
